Do BMW's require special diagnostic tools?

Yes. BMW vehicles require manufacturer-specific diagnostics scanners, programming software, & tools.

How often should my BMW be serviced?

Most BMW models require service every 10,000 miles or once a year. Some services such as brakes, cooling systems, oil changes may need attention far sooner.

Is BMW repair more expensive than other vehicles?

BMW repairs can be more expensive due to advanced engineering and specialized parts required but proper maintenance helps prevent costly failures.

What is an OFHG Leak and why is it dangerous?

The oil filter housing on your BMW (N54, N55, & N58 engines) is a common failure point on the 3 Series, 5 Series, and X5. The danger is because the housing sits directly above the serpentine belt and a slow oil leak can soak the belt. If the belt slips or snaps it can be sucked behind the front crank seal and into the engine causing catastrophic internal damage. If you see oil pooling in the engine valley's get the gasket replaced immediately.

Does my BMW really need an oil change every 10k miles?

For San Antonio, New Braunfels, & Boerne drivers we strongly advise an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles using a BMW approved synthetic oil (LL-01 or LL-17+ standards). The best and cheapest insurance you can buy for turbocharged vehicles is not waiting to 10,000 miles between oil changes.

Why does my BMW's check engine light come on after a car wash?

On certain models water can work its way into the spark plug wells or eccentric shaft sensor connector if the cowl drains are clogged with leaves or debris. Ensure your cowl drains are (near the bottom of the windshield) are clear so rainwater and car wash soap can drain away from the engine electronics.

Tip for M Series or Turbocharged BMW Drivers: After a spirited drive home from the hill country or trip to Fredericksburg let the engine idle for around 1 minute before shutting your engine off. This allows the oil to circulate and cool the turbos which prevents "oil cooking" in Texas' 100+ temperatures.
